Coming off of a blowout loss in the NCAA Tournament to TCU, the Seton Hall Pirates look to be trending downwards in 2023. Head coach Kevin Willard has left for the ACC and Maryland, but the future is bright as the Pirates are bringing in former St. Peter’s head coach Shaheen Holloway fresh off the Peacocks’ magical run to the Elite 8.

The Pirates are losing a lot of production from last season. Fifth-year seniors Myles Cale and Bryce Aiken are gone. One of the best shot blockers in the country Ike Obiagu won’t be coming back. Same for South Florida transfer Alexis Yetna. Big East First Teamer Jared Rhoden hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but with the way he played in the Portsmouth Invitational, catching the eyes of NBA scouts, it’s likely a long shot he returns to South Orange.

So, what’s left? Kadary Richmond is going to take the keys from Rhoden and be “that guy” for the Pirates. Tray Jackson and Tyrese Samuel will both return to solidify the frontcourt and Jamir Harris brings back his long-distance shooting. After that, there are a lot of question marks. Will one of the young guards who didn’t get much playing time last year step up?

Coach Holloway has some recruiting to do – both transfers and in the incoming classes – but the Pirates’ future looks bright, even if it’s not their year.
