6. Allan Ray – Villanova, 2003-2006

Career stats: 15.6 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 2.0 APG

Over Ray’s final three seasons — the ones that saw him elevated to a starting role — he averaged 17.3 points and made 174 threes. As a junior in 2004-05, Ray was the leading scorer on Jay Wright’s first NCAA Tournament team at Villanova, a team that ended up making the Sweet 16. As a senior, he averaged 18.5 points on Wright’s first Elite Eight team. He was a three-time All-Big East selection as well as a consensus All-American in 2006.

Although his teams never broke through and won the national championship, Ray helped lay the groundwork for building a culture under Jay Wright that would eventually become one of the most covetable in the sport.

5. Randy Foye – Villanova, 2003-2006

Career stats: 15.0 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 3.2 APG, 1.5 SPG

Foye and Allan Ray, who we’ll get to momentarily, formed the duo that kick-started Jay Wright’s career at Villanova. Foye was the Big East Player of the Year and a consensus first-team All-American in 2006, averaging 20.5 points and leading the Wildcats to the Elite Eight. The season prior, he averaged 15.5 points as Villanova made its first Sweet Sixteen in 21 years.

Foye also played 11 seasons in the NBA, averaging 10.3 points for his career.
