NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Duke transfer Joey Baker
Seton Hall Pirates
The Pirates are in an interesting spot, now with a new head coach in Shaheen Halloway from Saint Peter’s. His roster is starting to shape up like those teams, with defensive guards such as Kadary Richmond and Pittsburgh transfer Femi Odukale set to be the focal points on the offense. They do have returning guard Jamir Harris and Clemson transfer Al-Amir Dawes to provide shooting for next season but there’s also concern that the offense could go through some droughts.
Baker not only would help avoid that but he’d add some size on the wing position as 6’6. And not to typecast but even if he were to come off the bench, the former Blue Devil could play a similar role as Doug Edert did as the Peacocks’ 6th Man in the Elite 8 run. Only this time, Baker could do it at the Big East level.
St. John’s Red Storm
The Red Storm is another Big East program that has shooting concerns on its roster after losing both Aaron Wheeler and star wing Julian Champagnie. Dylan Addae-Wusu is the best three-point shooter on the roster until DePaul transfer David Jones arrived but the rest of the roster still has questions.
Especially in the backcourt with returning starting guard Posh Alexander and incoming Illinois transfer Andre Curbelo. Alexander shot 22% from deep last season and Curbelo was worst than that so adding a win such as Baker would be a nice addition to have more viable lineups on offense.
Joey Baker won’t be able to replace Champagnie’s production but he can at least replace his three-point shooting. If that happens and the other transfers can play up to expectation, the Red Storm will be in solid shape for next season to compete for an NCAA Tournament bid.
