NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Idaho of last decade
By Joey Loose
9. Jared Stutzman – Utah Valley / Idaho State
Stutzman was older than the average college athlete, taking an LDS mission before beginning his collegiate career back in 2016. The 6’6 guard from Idaho Falls initially played one season at Utah Valley before heading closer to home, finishing his career with three very solid campaigns for Idaho State in the Big Sky.
He had a limited role in that initial season at Utah Valley, appearing in all of their games but not playing the same type of role that he’d play at Idaho State. With those Bengals, he was a consistent starter for three seasons, averaging 14.9 points per game as a sophomore. He had a career-high 33 points that year in a win at Montana State. His numbers weren’t as gaudy but he was still an important contributor for his final two seasons, getting back to double-digit scoring as a senior.
Stutzman actually led the Big Sky in effective field goal percentage as a sophomore, only playing that season after receiving an NCAA waiver after his transfer. He took certain advantage of his new home and was an important piece for Idaho State. Even though the Bengals’ on-court performance wasn’t particularly great, there’s no doubt that Stutzman was an important piece and deserving of a spot among Idaho’s best.
