Atlantic 10 Basketball: 6 impact transfers to watch for 2022-23 season
By Stu Luddecke
Bryce Golden (Loyola Chicago Ramblers)
Golden isn’t the most explosive or athletically-gifted transfer on this list, but he’s one of the safer bets to be a very good A10 player from the moment he steps onto the floor this season. He doesn’t have exactly the same game as his brother Grant (the aforementioned former Richmond Spider), but for comparison’s sake, A10 fans can probably expect a similar type of impact.
He’s not quite the distributor Grant was, but he’s a big body that’s more offensive than defensively inclined, has soft touch around the rim, and can step out a couple of times per game for an open three.
Most importantly, he’s efficient and has four years of experience playing heavy minutes for the Butler Bulldogs. Drew Valentine has a lot of variables on his roster as far as X-factor, potential breakout type of players, but Golden isn’t someone he needs to speculate too much on as far as potential impact. He’s averaged at least 7.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 21 minutes per game in each of his last three seasons in the Big East.
It’s hard to imagine Golden’s numbers making a big jump this season in a tough A10 – Loyola has enough other talent on the roster to prevent him from needing to carry them – but as far as veteran leadership, reliability and versatility, there are few other big men in the league that one might want more on their roster.
