TCU Basketball: 2022-23 season preview and outlook for Horned Frogs

Season Outlook
Anytime a team returns their five starters and most of their bench pieces, you can pretty much bet that the team is in for a good season. In today’s world of the Transfer Portal, it’s harder and harder for a team to stay together like this and to build that chemistry. However, as evident by how last season ended, this isn’t just a squad familiar with one another, it’s a squad that’s very good and is getting even better.
Mike Miles Jr. is one of the early favorites to win Big 12 Player of the Year, while pieces like Miller and Baugh are expected to continue to be important contributors. The Horned Frogs have a plethora of talent, especially with frontcourt pieces like Lampkin continuing to hold down inside the paint. One of the biggest holes on last year’s team was the long-range shooting, but perhaps the Horned Frogs are in for improvement there as well.
There are clearly reasons to be excited at TCU but there are reasons for hesitance as well. The Horned Frogs will not play a better or more talented team than them in nonconference play, but certainly have their work cut out when Big 12 play gets started. Any team can beat anyone at home in the Big 12, and this Horned Frogs team may still be a step or two behind powerhouses Baylor and Kansas, winners of the last two national championships.
But let’s not just focus on the negative, because there is a lot to like about these Horned Frogs. Teams that bring back their entire starting lineup already have a leg up on the competition. Teams that can do that after nearly making the Sweet Sixteen are even more impressive. The Horned Frogs have never won multiple NCAA Tournament games in a single year, but this certainly looks like their most talented team in recent memory and the one that can get that job done.
