Iowa State Cyclones

The Big 12 program was hoping that the replacement for Tyrese Hunter at point guard would be Temple transfer, Jeremiah Williams. Unfortunately, a preseason injury has him out for the season, leaving a gaping hole in the backcourt. Freshmen Eli King and Tamin Lipsey will have to play a big role, while St. Bonaventure transfer Jaren Holmes is now the lead guard.

Iowa State is projected to have a good defense thanks to forwards Hason Ward and Osun Osunniyi but there are massive questions as to where the scoring will come from. This is an option that could use Perez as soon as possible and he could have a big role on the team and potentially start as well.

Louisville Cardinals

The Cardinals are a problem that made offseason headlines for not adding any perimeter players. The only returning guard on the roster is El Ellis and the team added three-star freshman ball-handler Fabio Basili but there’s still next to no depth in the backcourt. They’ll give it a go but things could get ugly if Ellis isn’t ready to be a star.

First-year head coach Kenny Payne could make up for this error by adding Perez and having him for ACC play. He’ll give them much-needed depth and also would just be a one-year rental and not affect any plans with key class of 2023 prospects.
