NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Manhattan transfer Jose Perez
Memphis Tigers
After completely revamping its entire backcourt and wing position, the Tigers added AAC Player of the Year point guard Kendric Davis, along with a trio of mid-major transfer guards. Keonte Kennedy (UTEP), Elijah McCadden (Georgia Southern), and Damaria Franklin (Illinois-Chicago) are all senior guards that’ll be part of the backcourt rotation.
However, Franklin currently isn’t eligible, due to his former program not cooperating with his ability to transfer without sitting out. If that’s not settled in a couple of weeks then he may not be able to play. If that were to happen, Perez would be a nice replacement for Franklin, and quite frankly, he may be better than a couple of these newcomers anyways and get minutes.
Minnesota Golden Gophers
Last year’s transfer-heavy backcourt was effective for the Gophers but all of them are gone, replaced by Dartmouth transfer Taurus Samuels and Morehead State guard Ta’Lon Cooper. Neither of them were double-digit scorers last year and now they’re in the Big Ten. So if they or the incoming freshmen class don’t produce, it won’t matter what Jamison Battle and Dawson Garcia do in the frontcourt.
Minnesota probably needed another guard before this news so this could be a good chance to add Perez and add some depth in the backcourt. He’d have a large role on the offense and provide a much-needed scoring boost for the team.
