NCAA Basketball: Analyzing top 6 options for top-10 PG Elliot Cadeau
Texas Longhorns
Head coach Chris Beard has been adding five-star freshmen and transfers ever since he arrived in Austin. That includes senior Marcus Carr and Iowa State transfer Tyrese Hunter, along with five-star freshman Arterio Morris. All three will likely be gone, leaving top-100 freshman ball-handler Rowan Brumbaugh left. Of course, that doesn’t include the potential transfers that Texas can and will add to the roster.
Along with that, the system has been critiqued as being too slow-paced for perimeter players to thrive, which would be a potential issue for Cadeau. It’ll be interesting to see if that changes with Hunter and Carr in the backcourt. If they look good, the Longhorns will definitely be in play for the five-star prospect.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
The fellow Big 12 program does have the same concerns as Texas when it comes to the style of play but the Red Raiders have been a national contender in the past five years and under head coach Mark Adams, also is one of the best defensive teams in NCAA Tournament. This actually presents an opportunity for Cadeau to become a two-way player, which would raise his NBA Draft stock.
Texas Tech will have De’Vion Harmon for 1-2 more years but does have a trio of ball-handlers on the way in freshman Pop Isaacs and four-star class of 2023 commits, Drew Steefe and Jason Jackson. Cadeau has more talent than all of them on paper and would certainly slide into a key spot but there will be perimeter players alongside him who want to have the ball as well.
