Terquavion Smith is more than just a scorer

Terquavion Smith has elevated his game in his second season in Raleigh. After going through the NBA Draft Process last year, a couple of the things Smith wanted to prove in coming back to NC State was that he could run a team from the lead guard position, and make others around him better.

He has proven both things to be true so far this season. Smith currently leads the team in assists, averaging 5.5 per game as compared to the 2.1 he averaged last season. He has also maintained his scoring averaging 18.2 points per game so far this year which is a slight increase from this 16.3 average last season. Smith has done a great job of not trying to do too much and trusting his teammates around him to make plays, and it is paying off so far.

Virginia transfer Casey Morsell has benefited the most from Smith’s willingness to find an open teammate when he is getting double-teamed. Morsell has seen his scoring average jump from 7.2 points per game last year to 13.4 this year in his second season with the Wolfpack while shooting a blistering 46.6% from behind the arc.

If Smith continues to grow his game and run the show the way he has thus far for the Wolfpack, he could lead this team back to the NCAA tournament after a 5-year drought. In what is almost certainly his final season in Raleigh, and would continue to boost his NBA Draft stock.
