Michigan Basketball: Analyzing transfer targets Matthew Cleveland, Olivier Nkamhoua, Hunter Dickinson
Olivier Nkamhoua – Tennessee Volunteers
2022-23 season stats: 10.8 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.0 apg
It’s been a slow climb for the 6’8 forward in terms of his role at Tennessee but as a senior, he was second in scoring this past season. Like the Vols as a team, Nkamhoua’s offense was very inconsistent. He had eight games with six points or fewer, as well as eight with at least 16 points.
Two of them were against the best teams in the country in Texas, as well as Duke in the NCAA Tournament, Nkamhoua dropped 27 points against both of them, including 10/13 shooting in just 22 points in the postseason versus the Blue Devils. There are times when the forward looks like a quality offensive option but other times, he’s nowhere to be found.
Although Michigan currently has three power forwards, Nkamhoua would easily be the best of the group if he were to join the program. While his offense can be inconsistent, the former Vols forward’s defense is better than anyone currently with the Wolverines and would be a big upgrade there. And he’s athletic and physical enough to play even the 3 and 5-spots, depending on how the roster looks overall.
There are plenty of teams that are interested in Nkamhoua, including both Auburn and Arizona. The pro route is also available for the international forward that has already played four years in college. Michigan hopes that they become the last stop for him before he starts his pro career.
