8. West Virginia Mountaineers

The Mountaineers are clearly all in on next season, having loaded up via the transfer portal. That includes former Arizona starting guard Kerr Krissa, along with Montana State transfer, RaeQuan Battle. Both Joe Toussaint and Seth Wilson are back as well for ball-handler depth.

Realistically, West Virginia doesn’t need Mulcahy. This would be a move they made because reportedly they have the NIL funds to make it work. But there’s no way that Kriisa would come off the bench for him and these two wouldn’t be a good fit together in the backcourt either. It’s essentially the same situation as with Kansas.

7. Kentucky Wildcats

The Wildcats are currently set to be one of the youngest teams in all of NCAA Basketball next season. And that’s even before guard Antonio Reeves enters the portal, which is something that could occur in the coming weeks. So it would make sense why the team would want to find some experience out there that could play in the SEC. And Mulcahy isn’t ball-dominant so there’s a chance that he could work with the freshmen guards.

But the reality is that ball-handling isn’t what Kentucky needs. Robert Dillingham and DJ Wagner are going to soak up the usage to the point where Mulcahy becomes just a defender that sometimes takes spot-up shots. And it’s not like the team would be a Final Four contender with him on it. I see why the Wildcats would reach out but it doesn’t make any sense from the player’s perspective.
