22. Tre Mitchell
A 6’9 center from Pittsburgh, Mitchell was a Top 100 recruit from the class of 2019 and an impressive grab from Matt McCall. Mitchell would enroll at Massachusetts and spend two years starring with the Minutemen before moving onto Texas for his junior season. He spent this past season at West Virginia and will play somewhere next season. Even though he bounced around, he accomplished plenty in those first two years in the A-10.
Mitchell came out as an impressive frontcourt piece for the Minutemen, averaging 17.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in his freshman season. The pandemic greatly shortened his second season, but he put up similar statistics while also shooting the ball better, averaging 18.8 points a game in 13 games. He scored a career-high 37 points in a road win at La Salle and had 30 points in the A-10 Tournament in a loss to Saint Louis in his final game for the Minutemen in 2021.
After winning A-10 Rookie of the Year in his freshman season, Mitchell was actually one of the conference’s most efficient players in an even better sophomore season, earning himself First Team All-A-10 honors. He was among the top scorers, most accurate shooters, and also was a decent rebounder and shot blocker for the Minutemen. He’s had some success at Texas and West Virginia in the Big 12 these last two years, but the pure numbers don’t match up to his time at UMass.
