West Virginia Basketball: 10 potential transfer options to fill 2023-24 roster
Malcolm Dandridge – Memphis Tigers
2022-23 season stats: 5.7 ppg and 3.6 rpg
Right now, Edwards would be forced to play nearly 40 mpg at the center position for the Mountaineers. Otherwise, the team would get killed by Big 12 opponents inside, with guys like Hunter Dickinson, John Hugley, and Dylan Disu around in the league. A number of big men that are capable of getting minutes at the power conference level are off the board but one that remains is Dandridge, a 6’9 center and four-year role player at Memphis.
The recruitment for Dandridge looked like it was heading to either Saint Louis or a reunion with the Memphis Tigers. But after landing Jordan Brown, there’s a chance that he won’t go back if forward Deandre Williams gets a waiver for an extra year at Memphis. If that’s the case and he’s wide open, maybe WVU can try to lock him down as the primary backup.
Ithiel Horton – UCF Knights
2022-23 season stats: 12.3 ppg and 3.7 rpg
A late entrant to the portal, the 6’3 guard has a reputation for being a great shooter at each of his three previous teams. Horton had 30 points in an overtime game against Memphis and had five games of at least 5 three-pointers made this past season.
Horton is originally from the New Jersey area and after losing Cam Spencer to UConn, the Scarlet Knights make all the sense in the world for him. However, with shooting always being a premium for teams this late in the process, look for others to get involved. West Virginia could use a shooter for Kriisa to pass the ball to and he’d start at the two-spot here.
