West Virginia Basketball: 10 potential transfer options to fill 2023-24 roster
A.J. Plitzuweit – South Dakota Coyotes
2022-23 season stats: 11.7 ppg and 2.6 apg
The 6’2 guard started out at the D-II level (Augustana) before becoming one of the top shooters in the Summit League. He averaged 19.0 ppg in his first full year, as well as making 42% of his three-point shots. He still has three years of eligibility left since he didn’t play in two different years.
Plitzuweit is easily one of the top pure shooters left in the portal and while not the greatest defender, should serve a role in helping space out the offense. He’d be a good fit with both Kriisa and Edwards on offense and if his defense isn’t bad at the Big 12 level, could be a nice late pickup.
Jalen Rucker – Army Knights
2022-23 season stats: 16.6 ppg and 3.6 apg
Rucker is from Baltimore and is a potential regional option for the Mountaineers. He did leave after the portal deadline but there’s a chance he can graduate this Summer and be eligible for the team. He’s a 5’11 combo guard so in this situation, Kriisa would have to slide over to the two-spot defensively.
Still, the offensive potential that Rucker could provide would be worth the move. The two-time All-Patriot League scorer showed he can be a high-volume scorer from the field and beyond the arc and is a good passer as well. Backcourt scoring depth is a bit of a question and someone like Rucker can solve that, even if he’s part of the second unit.
