Gonzaga Bulldogs

The Bulldogs are a team with three open scholarships and a lack of proven backcourt depth, especially assuming that Nolan Hickman starts alongside Creighton transfer, Ryan Nembhard. Murdix, when healthy, would be able to be the first guard off the bench and provide a lift, similar to what WCC 6th Man of the Year, Malachi Smith, did last season.

Murdix would have an easier time playing at the WCC level and get minutes on a preseason top-15 team. Plus, Gonzaga wouldn’t even need him until March anyways since they consistently dominate the league and make the NCAA Tournament as a high seed. But shoring up that perimeter defense would be helpful in trying to make another deep run in March.

Illinois Fighting Illini

The Illini’s journey with trying to land and keep point guards on this roster has left them without any veterans. There’s a case that they’re okay with having star guard Terrence Shannon Jr. running the offense again or having point-forward Ty Rodgers trying out for the position.

With someone who’s from the state of Illinois in the portal, it’s hard not to connect the dots for a potential pairing. It could be the best of both worlds, as the Illini could still try out Rodgers running the offense and see if it works in the non-con. If it does, Murdix can be an effective role player off the bench. If not, he’ll be a starting candidate when he’s 100%.
