Coach Mike White did a good job at landing the uncommitted 2023 prospects this offseason, landing top-100 guards, Blue Cain and Silas Demary Jr. But that’s in the backcourt. The frontcourt is in solid shape for next season, thanks to a bevy of transfers. Jalen DeLoach and Russel Tchewa have one more year left, along with D-II transfer, RJ Sunahara.

The last five-star prospect to join Georgia is Anthony Edwards and that worked out for him. It can work out for Newell, who’d be the focal point of the team and likely a future star of the team. The concern would be how the supporting cast would look if Cain and Demary don’t break out into stars. There would be plenty of playing time but would it be for a winner?

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Few NCAA Basketball programs are known more for winning than Gonzaga, with an active record of eight straight Sweet 16 appearances. The five-star prospects that have recently joined the program have made it to the NBA including the last star forward, Chet Holmgren.

With Anton Watson leaving after next season, the four-spot will be wide open for the Bulldogs. And he can play next to center Graham Ike and whichever guards are around. While he may not be the focal point of the offense, it’s a good spot for Newell to look really good at the WCC level and win as much as possible if it’s just one year.
