1. What if the impossible occurs?

With all respect, it’s hard for me to envision a scenario where Huggins gets his job back. It’s essentially based on a technicality of him not officially “resigning” with his own email, signature, etc. The problem with that is the school is more than willing to fight this and the only way for Huggins to coach is if a judge gets involved.

That seems extremely unlikely but in this litigious world, anything could be possible. So let’s go down the rabbit hole and see what would happen if the Mountaineers folded and just gave him his job back, and for argument, sake, wouldn’t fire him for cause immediately right after.

The first thing would be the fate of interim head coach, Josh Eilert. He could very well go back to being an assistant, and maybe with a handshake agreement that he’d be the guy to run the program after Huggins leaves in a year or two. Of course, it’s hard to believe anyone’s word in this situation so he could very well look for a job elsewhere.

As for the program overall, it would be a difficult scenario when it comes to NIL and roster building. All of the key pieces are seniors so the team will have to get a ton of players next offseason and this situation would be easy for opposing teams to negatively recruit.

But speaking of the roster, could this latest chapter have a potential effect on those who stuck around?
