2. Potential for another player exodus

When the coaching change occurred, the Mountaineers took a week before naming Eliert as head coach. At that time, five players entered the transfer portal. There were a few backups that left, along with starting forward, Tre Mitchell. The good news though was that on paper, the top three newcomers all decided to come back.

All three signed on to play with Coach Eilert but also did for Huggins as well. So if he were to return, I would doubt that would in itself force the trio to enter the transfer portal again. However, what are they feeling at the moment with the attempt by Huggins to return?

The extended transfer portal option for the West Virginia Basketball players due to the coaching change is still open for another couple of weeks. Based on how the story is going, that’s plenty of time for more things to happen, which could be good or bad for the players.

There’s always a chance that Kerr Kriisa, Jesse Edwards, and/or Raequan Battle could get tired of the uncertainty and enter the portal again. All three represent coveted needs for other teams so they wouldn’t have any issue finding a new spot. It’s also unlikely that these players would leave but that’s still a possibility to watch out for in July.
