Ivy League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
11. Seth Towns
Towns is yet another player from the Ivy League where you can only wonder what would’ve happened if things had turned out differently. A 6’8 forward from Columbus, Ohio, he arrived at Harvard in 2016 and became a major presence for the Crimson, though he’d spent just two seasons playing basketball for the program.
Dynamic as a freshman, Towns averaged 12.3 points and shot 38% from outside the arc in that first collegiate season, leading the Crimson to a second-place finish in the Ivy League. Year two was even better, with Towns now up to 16.0 points and 5.7 rebounds a game and a 44% mark from the 3-point line. He had a couple of 30-point efforts during conference play and came just shy of leading the Crimson to the Ivy League Tournament title.
Towns’ impressive play as a sophomore saw him earn Ivy League Player of the Year honors, finishing as one of the top scorers and best shooters in the league. He showed a ton of potential, though he’d miss his entire next two seasons due to significant injuries. Due to various injuries and other factors, Towns is still eligible, having played at Ohio State in 2021 and will star at Howard this upcoming season. This now 26-year-old could have been a menace had he stayed healthy in the Ivy League.
