Duquesne Basketball: Analyzing 6 newcomers to Dukes 2023-24 roster
SR Fousseyni Drame
2022-23 season stats: 8.8 ppg and 5.3 rpg
The 6’7 forward has 73 career starts in four years at St. Peter’s and La Salle, coming off a career-high offensive season. Fousseyni went for 22 points and four steals against Queens, along with 24 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals against St. Joe’s. He only made 20 total three-pointers last season and is better at driving to the basket but did prove that Fousseyni can be an offensive threat.
SR Hassan Drame
2022-23 season stats: 6.4 ppg and 4.3 rpg
The twin brother isn’t as big of an offensive threat as Fousseyni but Drame had his moments last season as well. He went for 17 points and six rebounds at Villanova, along with 16 against Richmond on 4/5 shooting. Hassan is a better pure shooter compared to his brother and is a quality rebounder.
Duquesne’s strength last season was its frontcourt depth and the versatility that these two provide only helps that. Both Drames can play and defend positions 3-5 and gives the Dukes plenty of large lineups.
The only concern is whether will they be a natural fit alongside Tre Williams at the four-spot since there would be a lack of floor spacing. But they’ve already proven they can play at the Atlantic 10 level so look for which lineups ultimately work best in the non-conference before a solidified rotation is set in league play.
