NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing early contenders for 5-star wing Kon Knueppel
Duke Blue Devils
The Blue Devils are already in good shape on the wings with its future roster. They landed five-star wing Isaiah Evans, along with four-star shooting guard, Darren Harris. And the team already has a good shooter in former four-star guard Jaden Schutt and incoming five-star forward, TJ Power.
All of the attention for Duke is going to be on projected No. 1 overall prospect Cooper Flagg, as well as a center to replace Kyle Filipowski. With someone of Kneuppel’s shooting caliber, you can try to find a spot for him in the rotation if he lands here. But of all of the options, this is one that could have him buried on the bench if things don’t work out.
Louisville Cardinals
The Cardinals just missed out on a five-star player, as Trentyn Flowers opted to go pro instead of playing for them this year. The team is in full rebuild mode and needs all the talent they can get so Kneuppel would get plenty of playing time early on compared to a Duke.
The issue is that he may not be winning much and if the supporting pieces don’t fit, Kneuppel could underachieve. And he has to be careful with Louisville because head coach Kenny Payne isn’t 100% safe unless the program shows major strides after winning just four games last season. If he wants to commit late, he can see what direction the Cardinals are going before making them a serious option.
