Patriot League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
14. Andre Walker
Walker is a 6’0 combo guard from Westbury, New York who actually played plenty of point during his career at Loyola-Maryland. He was an early recruit of G. G. Smith and would star for the Greyhounds between 2014 and 2018 during much of Smith’s term at the helm of the program. Suffice to say, Walker would put up impressive numbers during his career.
He was already averaging double-digit points per game as a freshman and was even more impactful moving forward. By his junior year, Walker was up to 14.9 points, 3.9 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, leading the Greyhounds to 16 wins and a 6th place finish in the Patriot, one of their best recent seasons. During his senior year, he had a 43-point performance in a win against Lafayette before dropping 32 on Lehigh a few weeks later.
Walker was First Team All-Patriot as both a junior and senior, with impressive points, assists, and steals numbers throughout his career. He was the league’s best free throw shooter as a junior and had pretty great metrics by the end of his time at Loyola. While the Greyhounds were largely disappointing during Smith’s head coaching tenure, Walker was one of the bright spot, leading the point with style and doing some great work in the Patriot League in the process.
