Patriot League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
24. Jalen Rucker
Things have been going somewhat smoothly at Army the last few seasons and Rucker is a big reason for that. A 5’10 combo guard from Baltimore, he joined the Black Knights back in 2020. During these last three seasons, Rucker has started nearly every game, becoming a major part of Army’s backcourt and helping put the program in better position.
Rucker’s freshman season was decent, averaging 9.6 points and 2.7 assists, though he’d be more impactful moving forward. With better minutes and shooting numbers, he put up 17.1 points per game as a sophomore and nearly matched it this past season as a junior. Not only are his assist and rebounding numbers improving, but he ended this past year on a high note, scoring 32 and 26 points against Boston University and Colgate respectively in the Patriot League Tournament.
Honored by the conference each of his three years, Rucker finally got the nod at First Team All-Patriot as a junior. He actually led the league in scoring and field goals and was an important piece as Army finished 4th in the conference standings. Rucker showed plenty of potential even for his size, especially in those last two seasons. He announced his intention to transfer back in May and is still looking for his spot for his senior year.
