Point Guard

Starter – Steven Ashworth (30 mpg)

Steven Ashworth is probably the most important acquisition for Creighton out of the transfer portal this offseason. He joins the fray in 2023-24 for the Bluejays looking to take some of the playmaking load off of Baylor Scheierman’s shoulders. He’ll look to replace what Ryan Nembhard did in the backcourt after doing work with Utah State over the past few seasons.

He put up 16.2 ppg, 4.5 apg, 3.3 rpg and 1.2 spg in the MWC this past season across 35 appearances, 25 starts. He also shot 43.4 percent from 3-point range and led the MWC in 3-pointers made (111) this past season. It certainly doesn’t hurt the offense to have three potential ballhandlers and shot-makers on the floor with Ashworth in the fold now.

Bench – Francisco Farabello (10 mpg), Trey Alexander

Look for the backup minutes at the point guard role to go mostly to Francisco Farabello. While the Bluejays have a ton of talent, a lot of them are young, ready and waiting. Farabello is one of those as he returns after appearing in 34 games in 2022-23 with 3.0 ppg and 1.3 rpg. When needed, Alexander will slide over to the point guard role as well given he’s fully capable.
