Shooting Guard

Starter – Hunter Cattoor (30 mpg)

Hunter Cattoor returns looking to have a more healthy season for the Hokies. Cattoor missed six games this past season with injury and his absence in the offense wasn’t unnoticed. He returns looking to be quite the backcourt combination with Sean Pedulla. He put up 10.8 ppg, 3.7 prg, 2.4 apg, and 1.0 spg on 42.4 percent shooting from behind the arc. He’ll look to increase his production on all fronts with a bigger role on the horizon in 2023-24.

He was the ACC Tournament MVP back in 2021-22 when he led the Hokies to an upset victory over Duke with a career-high 31 points on 7-of-9 shooting from deep and 11-of-16 shooting from the floor. He’s certainly capable of putting together big performances.

Bench – M.J. Collins (10 mpg), Jaydon Young

M.J. Collins was a spark off the bench for the Hokies this past season and should provide even more of that with experience this season. Collins averaged 4.1 ppg, 2.4 rpg and 1.4 apg and even started in 16 games in 2022-23. He’ll provide a ton of support in the backcourt for Virginia Tech with his energy and play off the bench.

Jaydon Young could also be a name to fill the void at the shooting guard role, if he’s ready. He’s a freshman from their 2023 class out of Greensboro Day (NC) with a knack for scoring the ball in a variety of ways.
