Florida State Basketball: Projected depth chart and rotation for 2023-24
Point Guard
Starter: Primo Spears (34 mpg) – Assuming he gets a waiver to play
Seminoles fans who are unfamiliar with Primo Spears will be learning his name in a hurry when the season kicks off. Spears was an iron man for the Hoyas last season, playing over 36 minutes per game, and on a Florida State team that lacks meaningful depth at point guard, he figures to once again get all the time on the court he can handle.
Caleb Mills, the Seminoles’ leading assist man from a year ago, is now in Memphis after transferring this offseason, paving the way for Spears to take over.
Spears averaged over five assists per game last year, but he’s more than just a distributor, as he also averaged 16 points per game. Just taking into account the departures of Mills and Matthew Cleveland, that’s 26.8 points per game missing from a year ago. Spears’ numbers may only continue to grow in Tallahassee.
Reserve: Jalen Warley (6 mpg)
At 6’6″, junior Jalen Warley isn’t your typical college point guard prospect, but he showed the ability to run the offense and create for others last year, nearly topping Mills for the team lead in assists. He’ll find plenty of time to be on the court alongside Spears, but he projects to be the best option to run the show during the few minutes Spears sits.
