8. RJ Davis – North Carolina

A Top 50 recruit who originally played under Roy Williams as a freshman, Davis now enters his fourth season with the Tar Heels and his third under Hubert Davis. He took a major step forward as a sophomore during North Carolina’s run to the Final Four and was even more productive last season, averaging 16.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game as a junior.

North Carolina mightily struggled last season and Davis may have underachieved at times as a result. He’s been a fantastic athlete and player, especially since Hubert Davis took over the program, but the Tar Heels will need even more from him this season. Expect a strong season out of Davis, especially if he can shore up his issues on the defensive end and continue improving his shooting stroke.

7. Judah Mintz – Syracuse

A stud freshman for the Orange last season, Mintz was considered a Top 50 recruit and lived up to the billing, albeit in a year full of struggles at Syracuse. Mintz averaged 16.3 points and 4.6 assists per game in Jim Boeheim’s final season with the program and will look to improve on that production under new head coach Adrian Autry.

One of the most exciting freshmen from last season, you can bet that Mintz will have another explosive season and Syracuse will really need it. There are certainly question marks on this roster outside of the backcourt. Mintz himself might have to carry this team, continuing to grow as a playmaker and support the players around him. If Mintz has that typical step forward as a sophomore, he could be First Team All-ACC by the end of the year.
