NCAA Basketball: Top 15 impact high-major JUCO transfers for 2023-24 season
12. Alejandro Vasquez – UAB Blazers
2022-23 season stats (Salt Lake): 18.4 ppg and 2.9 apg
The 6’4 guard played two years at St. Bonaventure before becoming a JUCO All-American at Salt Lake. He had 14 games of at least 20 points, including a season-high 31-point effort versus Colorado Northwestern. Vasquez joins a UAB squad that lost a ton of talent, including 20+ ppg scoring guard, Jordan Walker. They’ll need him to be an impact scorer to compete in the AAC this season.
11. Oscar Cluff – Washington State Cougars
2022-23 season stats (Cochise): 18.2 ppg and 9.8 rpg
One of the top frontcourt players in all of JUCO last season, Cluff shot a whopping 75% from the field, along with nine games of 20+ points. One includes a 32-point effort against Phoenix, along with a 19-rebound effort versus Eastern Arizona. The 6’11 big man from Australia joins a new-look frontcourt at Wazzu that lost both Mouhamed Gueye and Adrame Diongue. He and Issac Jones, another former JUCO star, will have to be viable Pac-12 players in order for the Cougars to be competitive.
10. Trey Fort – Mississippi State Bulldogs
2022-23 season stats (Howard): 24.9 ppg and 5.8 rpg
One of the top pure scorers in any level of college basketball last season, Fort was an All-American who shot 52% from the field and 45% from three-point range. The 6’4 guard had nine games of at least 30 points last season, including a pair of 41-point efforts. The only reason why Fort is down the list, despite arguably being the most talented is that he joins a logjam a veteran guards on the roster. Shakeel Moore and Dashawn Davis (another former JUCO star) are back, while Marshall transfer Andrew Taylor is a 20 ppg contributor from the Sun Belt. Look for the following year to be where Fort has a larger role.
