Projected key reserves

The Bowling Green Falcon’s roster goes deep in terms of who can fit where. Some of these guys may even find themselves in a starting role down the road.

Guard – Marcus Hill (Junior)

Hill is one of the more prolific scorers on the team. Taking shots from deep is not the focus of his game, instead it is his ability to still score inside the arc at multiple levels. His consistency allowed him to average double-digit points throughout last season in the Junior College ranks. He is able to really fit well at the three with the ability to be versatile in his scoring especially when other shooters are on the floor. Expect Hill to see a lot of minutes off the bench and even a starting role throughout the season.

Point Guard – DJ Smith (Junior)

Smith is pound-for-pound pretty similar to Trey Thomas in size and playstyle. He also has the ability to create for himself and make plays while still being the facilitator on the floor. Smith should see a lot of playing time coming in behind Thomas as the other true point guard of the team. It would be safe to say that throughout the year Smith and Thomas will split a lot of time with Thomas likely having the edge mainly due to experience at the Division 1 level.

Point Guard – PJ Edwards (Sophomore)

Edwards comes in from UCF with a handful of minutes on the court. This season is time for him to prove himself as a great player off the bench in a second or third rotation spot. He brings great size and looks like a solid all-around player that could fall into the starting role eventually.

Some Reserve Bigs (Sam Towns and Jamie Felt)

Sam Towns was a bright spot for the Falcons last season. Towns was a starting big man for the Falcons a lot of the time last season where he was able to score down low with his main benefit being his ability to crash the glass. Although not a traditional big, Towns can always come in when guarding bigger opponents is needed with the ability to consistently score from mid-range. Fans were not able to see much of Jamai Felt at the college level as he redshirted his freshman year last season. However, Felt brings some size and strength to the roster in what could be a backup role very similar to Sam Towns. Felt should develop nicely picking up a bigger role as the season goes forward.

Other Reserves

JZ Zaher comes in from Eastern Michigan as a young depth piece. Greg Spurgin, brother of Center Jason, will likely use this season to acclimate himself to this level to play. EJay Greer is freshman coming into a team full of upperclassman transfers. McComb is another player that returns to the Orange and Brown this year with one season under his belt. Although he did not get a lot of playing time, he did see the floor in 20 games last year. He can grow into a player like Marcus Hill eventually. All these guys will be important in building continuity with the program and can use this year to acclimate and develop for the future.
