Texas Tech Basketball: 2023-24 season preview for the Red Raiders

Season Outlook
As we previously mentioned, life in Lubbock has been a roller coaster going back the last several years. Texas Tech has had more head coaches than seemingly every other power conference program, though the hope is that McCasland brings stability to the program. That’s certainly what he did for the Mean Green of North Texas.
It’s important to remember that this is something of a rebuild, not just of the basketball program but of the culture in the program. The last two years under Mark Adams were a step in the wrong direction after Beard took them nearly to the highest heights of the college basketball world. The question becomes how long it takes Texas Tech to become a big name in the Big 12 again.
They’ve got the pieces in place for that future success. Isaacs looked at times like a star in the making last season and he’s got an experience backcourt mate in Toussaint. The frontcourt is loaded with veteran experience, as McCasland was very busy using the Transfer Portal this offseason.
There are talented underclassmen on this roster and McCasland likely will have more on the way in the coming years. Building success doesn’t happen overnight, though this roster in place is full of talented players at every position. How this team gels together will be an intriguing story to watch, especially with such a tough early test down in the Bahamas.
If this becomes a breakout season for Isaacs, then Texas Tech could certainly find their way back into the NCAA Tournament. Making the Big Dance seems like a great goal for McCasland, though it’s also not the end of the world if the Red Raiders fall short. As mentioned before, building success is the goal, though teams like Arizona and Kansas State in recent years have shown that it can sometimes be built much faster than expected. Expect Texas Tech in the middle of the pack in the Red Raiders if everything goes according to plan.
