Big East Basketball: Villanova’s breakout, Creighton’s upset among latest storylines

1. What to do with DePaul
It was not all sunshine and roses for this conference this week though, with the DePaul Blue Demons having struggles beyond their usual losses. This team is 1-6 heading into the tougher part of their schedule, so it does not appear to be getting better anytime soon.
They have losses to Fort Wayne, Long Beach St, South Carolina, San Francisco, and most recently, NIU. These have not been close games either mostly, DePaul is simply not competing with most of these teams.
Against NIU DePaul could not defend the perimeter, they allowed 45 percent of shots from behind the arc to go in. The concerns have been piling on and piling on, and for coach Tony Stubblefield, it does not seem to be getting better anytime soon.
Some have questioned whether or not DePaul should be in the Big East at all over these past few weeks, and that is not something to consider, especially right now. This conference gets their Chicago market from the Blue Demons, and while they do not have the notoriety, or the attendance, they are still a vital member of this conference at the moment.
Every program goes through its struggles, DePaul’s are just much greater than one might usually be used to. There will most likely be a coaching change when it is all said and done this season, and If that change still brings about the same results, then maybe we can discuss their membership. But for now, this program will have to tough out a very difficult season and try to salvage what little is left for the time being.
