15. Texas A&M Aggies - 11-2
In the Coach Buzz Williams era, the Aggies tend to have some confusing results in the non-conference. They wasted no time this year, falling to UCF in their season opener on the road. But after losing to Oregon in the Players Era Tournament, they’ve since gone on a nice run, winning seven straight games.
The victories include over Creighton, Rutgers, Wake Forest, and Purdue, with the Boilermakers' win being the most impressive. Add an early win over Ohio State at home, and it’s another strong resume from an SEC team.
Once again, Wade Taylor leads the team with 16.0 ppg and 4.5 apg, shooting 36% from deep. SMU transfer Zhuric Phelps has had a big impact in his first year with the program, averaging 13.0 ppg. Neither is shooting more than 39% from the field, so that’s something to watch for the Aggies. However, the supporting cast has plenty of depth, with nine players making at least one start to this point.
After beating Abilene Christian by 38 points on Saturday, Texas A&M looks to SEC play. They take on Texas at home in the opener, followed by a trio of top-25 opponents, including Oklahoma. Alabama and Kentucky. If they continue their great play, look for the Aggies to be a contender in the regular-season title race.
