1. Auburn (13-1)
We could wax poetic about these Tigers for much longer than these next few paragraphs: this team is really, really good and has the potential for something special. Beating Houston, Iowa State, Purdue and several others, Auburn has showed their strengths and will look to keep that energy into SEC play, a conference that looks like the deepest and strongest this season.
One last nonconference matchup happened Monday, as Auburn coasted to an 87-58 win over Monmouth. Double-doubles from both Johni Broome and Dylan Cardwell led the charge in a drama-free win. Conference play began Saturday and the Tigers handled their business again, winning 84-68 at home against Missouri. Broome had 24 points and 7 rebounds while the Tigers as a team shot 57% from the field.
Not only winners in big games, Auburn has run off six straight wins and have scored more than 80 points in all of them. This offense is elite and Broome is playing as well as any frontcourt player in the entire country. Auburn has passed nearly every test and belongs in this position for national attention. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle the rigors of SEC play, continuing next week at Texas and South Carolina.
Exciting times loom ahead in the college basketball season and we’ve finished this week’s look at our Top 25 rankings as such. Which of these teams are going to make bigger pushes now that league play has begun across the country?
