20. Memphis (11-3)
Memphis won’t exactly face a ton of challenges in AAC play meaning they’ve had to take advantage of nonconference play to build their resume. Suffice to say that’s exactly what they’ve done with wins over UConn, Michigan State, Ole Miss, and on the road over Clemson and Virginia. Three double-digit losses do stain that resume, though the Tigers are looking pretty strong now that their league play has started.
Coming off last weekend’s 17-point win over Mississippi, the Tigers were on the road to begin AAC play and delivered in a 90-62 win at Florida Atlantic. These aren’t the same Owls that made the Final Four two seasons ago, but it was still a phenomenal performance from Memphis, who are now 4-0 on the road. Tyrese Hunter had 20 points and 7 rebounds while PJ Haggerty added 19 points in another fine effort.
The unquestionable favorite in the AAC, Memphis has a chance to coast their way to a long winning streak in the weeks ahead. They’ve built a very favorable resume and have proven that they can hang with virtually any team, though this team isn’t infallible. They do have a chance to drop a game or two in league play if their offensive struggles resurface. Next week they’re at home against North Texas and East Carolina and just need to keep playing smart ball.
