Bracketology 2024: Houston, Creighton, and Nebraska among week's biggest winners

St. John’s
Year one under Rick Pitino has been an adventure for the Red Storm. They haven’t exactly come out as a top-tier team in the Big East, but St. John’s has still had a pretty solid season. A lack of success over the last month plus has really doomed this team, as they entered the week winners of just two of their last ten games. If there was saving for this resume, the Red Storm did that this week.
First and foremost, they did what they needed to do on Wednesday, securing a 90-85 road win at Georgetown. Nothing is gained from playing the Hoyas, so at least the Red Storm were back in the win column. The real fortune came Sunday, as St. John’s delivered in an 80-66 win against Creighton, securing their second Quad 1 win of the season.
That 2-9 record in Quad 1 games is almost as disturbing as their 16-12 overall record. What’s important here is the win over Creighton, not just for getting them back on the winning track but for securing a key win in one of their final regular season chances. St. John’s potential for the Big Dance will likely be determined at the NCAA Tournament, though they’ll almost certainly need to win out before that, with a road trip at Butler and then unhelpful rematches against DePaul and Georgetown.
