3. Connecticut (28-3)
With the way that the Huskies are playing right now, they will be one of the favorites to repeat as national champions. Nobody is perfect in this sport, but Connecticut has been pretty lethal for virtually the entire season. They had a 14-game winning streak earlier in Big East play and have shown that they can hang with and punish nearly any opponent.
The Huskies completed a season sweep over Marquette on Wednesday night, getting the 74-67 win against a short-handed Golden Eagles squad. Alex Karaban scored 23 points while Cam Spencer had 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in UConn’s first Top 25 road win in several years. The regular season finished on a high note on Saturday in a 74-60 road win at Providence. All five Huskies starters were in double figures led by Karaban’s 16-point effort in the finale.
There are some truly elite programs this season and anyone thinking anything less than that about Connecticut is kidding themselves. It’s been brutal on a regular basis for the Huskies opponents and it looks to continue in the weeks to come. They’ll be looking for the Big East Tournament title they fell short of last season and then looking for some real history after that.
