2. Tucker DeVries (Drake)

Throughout college basketball history we’ve seen numerous examples of sons playing for their fathers and putting up excellent production. DeVries is the latest example of that, becoming a major force these last three years under father Darian at Drake. There’s no hesitation in saying that DeVries has been the MVC’s best player these last three years and is the biggest reason why the Bulldogs program was greatly elevated in recent years.

As a junior DeVries put up 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, numbers that simply jump off the page for the Bulldogs. He was named MVC Player of the Year for a second straight season, led the league in scoring yet again and finished 10th in the nation in total points on the year. During another standout season for Drake, DeVries also finished among the conference leaders in assists and steals and got them back to the Big Dance once again.

DeVries opened the season with 36 points against Lipscomb and had 33 against Stephen F. Austin a few weeks later. He came up big time and time again during league play, including a 39-point effort in a triple-overtime road win at UIC in late February. Most impressive again was his postseason play, winning Tournament MVP honors in leading the Bulldogs to another conference tournament title. He’ll continue playing for his dad at West Virginia next year, but at least ended his time in the Valley with a nice performance against Washington State in the Big Dance.
