7. Drew Pember (UNC Asheville)

Early in his career, Pember was a benchwarmer at Tennessee, playing very little basketball in his first two seasons. Deciding to transfer became transformative, as Pember would develop into an absolute star while at UNC Asheville. Not only was Pember putting up crazy numbers in the Big South, he was winning games and making his mark, especially this past season.

Pember’s fifth collegiate season saw him average 20.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, figures that were actually a slight decline from the previous season. He made 36% of his 3-pointers and exhibited the ability to score and crate from all over the court. Not only was he the league’s top scorer yet again, Pember also won Big South Player of the Year honors for a second straight season, with many efficiency metrics also highly favoring his efforts.

UNC Asheville won 22 games this season and certainly benefited from Pember’s presence in the lineup. He topped 30 points five times, including in tough games against High Point and Winthrop during league play. Most impressively he’d have a pair of triple-doubles, with one in December against Appalachian State and another in the league tournament against Gardner-Webb. Despite his team falling short, his play in the Big South Tournament was a phenomenal ending to his collegiate career.
