9. Terrence Edwards Jr. (James Madison)
A critical part of James Madison basketball for the last four years, it’s fair to say that Edwards took another big step forward this year. The Dukes have been a program in decent shape in recent years, though Edwards as a major reason for their growth in this their second season in the Sun Belt. In fact, the senior guard from Georgia stood out as one of the most exciting mid-major players on the season.
Edwards averaged 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. While his overall shooting numbers took a slight step back, he was much more involved in every aspect of the offense for the Dukes. Not only did he lead the league in points he was also named Sun Belt Player of the Year after helping take the Dukes to a 2nd place league finish in a historic 32-win campaign.
He offered an important 24 points in the Dukes’ opening night win at Michigan State and continued to be a force all season long. Edwards had a 30-point effort at Georgia State late in the season, a part of James Madison’s perfect February. After playing well in the Big South Tournament, Edwards scored 14 points in the NCAA Tournament upset win over Wisconsin and certainly showcased his worth on this roster.
