Weekend Reading: Finances and Revenue in College Basketball
By Blake Lovell
If you’ve never checked out The Business of College Sports, an unbelievably awesome blog maintained by Kristi Dosh, then you are really missing out on something special.
The blog deals with…..you guessed it: the business side of college athletics.
It’s a great resource for those who really love the college game, while also wanting to know what drives revenue on the financial side of things in college sports. So if this is something that you find interesting, then I have a feeling that you’re really going to enjoy this.
Dosh is currently sharing some of the works of Patrick Rishe, who does work for SportsMoney on Forbes.com.
These particular works were released back in March, so I’m sure that some of you out there have already checked it out and digested all the intriguing information, but for those that haven’t, you should definitely check out this excellent series on what conferences contribute what kind of revenue.
Part 1 discusses revenue in terms of who are the major players conference-wise in college basketball. Part 2 talks about individual team revenue. Part 3 deals with the revenue of the Big East. And Part 4 focuses on the Big Ten.
If you didn’t see these when they came out in mid-March, then definitely go check them out. Some of the numbers are very interesting, as it gives a better insight into who are the heavy hitters in terms of generating revenue for their program.
Also be sure to check out more of Prishe’s work over at SportsMoney. I could probably talk at length about how great most of the posts he has on there are, but we’ll just focus on the revenue series for now.
Once you check them out, let me know what you think. Any specific information in these reports surprise you?
