Conference Expansion: C-USA and Mountain West Forming New Association
By Blake Lovell
The Mountain West Conference and Conference USA officials are expected to unveil the name for their new conference today after both sides agreed to proceed with the new association.
This is quite the interesting development, although it’s no secret that both sides have been eager to make something happen with this deal. And now it looks like they’ve finally worked on all the details and are ready to create a huge conference.
As mentioned in the ESPN story above, we’re talking about a conference that will pretty much spread across the country and will include teams in five different time zones. That’s rather unique, to say the least.
From a basketball standpoint, even with the addition of Conference USA teams, the Mountain West teams will still likely be at the head of the class, although there are teams like Southern Miss in C-USA that are seeing their program rise to greater heights.
It will be intriguing to see just how this conference will operate and what the schedule would look like on the college hoops side.
I’m sure we’ll find out more details when the official name of the new conference or “association” is released later on.
But for now, any suggestions as to what the new name should be?
