Nov. 10 vs. Bethune-Cookman (NIT Tip-Off campus game)

Last Year: 18-14 (12-4 MEAC)
NCAA Tournament: No
2018-19 Projection: 330th

Bethune-Cookman – which is on Marquette’s schedule as a lead-in for the NIT Tip-Off – does not project to be a very good game, but there is still some potential for the Wildcats to be a run-of-the-mill cupcake, rather than a resume eyesore come March.

More. Projecting Joseph Chartouny as a shooter. light

The Wildcats won 18 games last season, and were the 2-seed in the MEAC tournament before losing 78-77 in the second round. Leading scorer Brandon Tabb has graduated, but Bethune-Cookman still has a veteran-heavy roster. Senior guard Isaiah Bailey averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game last season, while fellow senior Shawntrez Davis dropped 14.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks.

Marquette should be able to run away and hide in this game; the Wildcats ranked 262nd in adjusted offensive efficiency last season. But per usual with low-major squads, the real impact comes over the rest of the season during #RPIWatch. The Golden Eagles should be good enough to avoid any resume conversations on the bubble, but the fewer metrics-based calamities on the schedule, the better.
