Duke Blue Devils, Virginia Cavaliers, North Carolina Tar Heels, Louisville Cardinals, Florida State Seminoles, Virginia Tech Hokies

The Duke Blue Devils, Virginia Cavaliers, North Carolina Tar Heels and Louisville Cardinals seem to be the teams with the biggest room for error. Duke and Virginia remain possibilities are No. 1 seeds with the Blue Devils holding the edge for the No. 1 overall seed.

North Carolina hovers in the No. 2/3 seed range but for now, they’re ranked No. 2. They’ve shown flashes of a team that can play beyond the first weekend, but there’s also remnants of a team that could lose that first weekend.

Louisville has an opportunity to move up, but with two straight losses in conference play shows they still have work to do from a seeding standpoint. A No. 4 seed isn’t too hard to put past them at this point.

Florida State is the biggest team on the rise. They’ve won six ACC contests in a row and at 7-4 in league action, they’re primed to make a move in the bracketology discussion. They’re 3-2 against opponents ranked in the AP Poll this year. Right now, a No. 6 seed looks good on them.

Virginia Tech is the team with the smallest room for error, which doesn’t help given their current circumstances. The Hokies played their fourth-straight game without senior guard Justin Robinson on Wednesday night. 20 points from Ty Outlaw and 16 points apiece from Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kerry Blackshear Jr. got them over the hump. They seem to keep adjusting with what comes. Currently, they project as a No. 5 seed.
