5. Kansas Jayhawks

After a resounding victory over the Northeastern Huskies 87-53 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the Jayhawks stumbled against the No. 5 seeded Auburn Tigers. On Saturday night, Kansas fell to Auburn in stunning fashion 89-75 ending their season a bit earlier than expected.

After making last year’s Final Four, the Jayhawks were sent home packing early this March. It’s their first second-round exit since the 2010 NCAA Tournament and just the second time in the Bill Self Era they’ve been eliminated in the second round.

The Jayhawks just seemed outmatched against a scrappy Auburn squad. Bryce Brown finished with 25 points on 7-of-11 shooting from behind the arc for the Tigers in their win. They led by 26 points at halftime and despite a better second half performance, the Jayhawks were unable to stage a comeback.

It will be interesting to see who returns to the team next season. Dedric Lawson, Devon Dotson and Quentin Grimes could all enter their names into the 2019 NBA Draft. If they don’t, the Jayhawks should be back for their 31st straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
