Marquette Basketball: Reviewing 2019-20 non-conference schedule
By Brian Foley
Nov. 23 vs. Robert Morris
Last Year: 18-17 (11-7 Northeastern)
NCAA Tournament: No
2019-20 Projection: 238th
Though Robert Morris returns leading scorer Josh Williams (14.5 ppg), the Colonials defense will be where RMU gives Marquette trouble. Last season, Robert Morris finished 18th in the nation in defensive turnover rate, while the Golden Eagles finished as one of the worst high-major teams in giveaways
The Colonials have very little firepower offensively, but if MU can’t hang onto the ball, RMU will be able to stay in this game with some easy fast break points. The schedule even sets up well for RMU, as Marquette will be coming off two straight intense battles against Big Ten squads, before heading on a trip to Orlando for three more high-profile games.
The Golden Eagles actually struggled in a similar situation last year. Tucked between a road loss at Indiana and the team’s trip to Brooklyn to face Kansas and Louisville, Presbyterian came to Milwaukee and actually held a two-possession lead well into the second half. Eventually, MU found its rhythm and blasted the doors of PC to finish the game, but a similar lull in this game with Robert Morris would not be surprising.
