NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Ranking top 10 options for 5-star Chris Livingston
6. Kansas Jayhawks
The Jayhawks already have a top-50 wing commit in the 2022 class in Grady Dick, although he figures to be a 3-4 year player. Having Livingston come in and start likely wouldn’t affect things negatively, although there’s an argument here that this team likely won’t be as aggressive for his services.
That’s because Kansas is also in the picture for another five-star wing in Mark Mitchell, who is playing for Sunrise Academy next season. It’s a local and prestigious local prep school that has supplied the Jayhawks with a ton of great talent. Since the program can’t land them both, they would be better off focusing largely on Mitchell instead of Livingston.
5. North Carolina Tar Heels
There’s always a bit of apprehension with first-year head coaches, which Hubert Davis will be after taking over for Hall of Famer Roy Williams. That’s pressure enough but how he deals with one-and-done prospects will determine how successful he’ll be going forward. Livingston is one of a few class of 2022 recruits the Tar Heels are targeting, with big man Will Shaver already committed.
The roster construction at the small forward position is interesting here. Puff Johnson and Kerwin Walton are natural wings but neither played much as freshmen last year. And incoming four-star recruit Dontrez Styles and Virginia transfer Justin McCoy are more combo forwards than true wings. So this shouldn’t be much of a position of need but the Tar Heels certainly won’t say no to a top-5 overall talent.
