SEC Basketball: Updated early power rankings for 2021-22 season
By Matt Melton
10. Missouri Tigers
Previous Ranking: 9
After losing notable seniors from a year ago, the Tigers return a few quality pieces including Kobe Brown and Javon Pickett, as well as a strong incoming class. However, the 1-2 pieces that the Tigers needed to add to a fairly young team were experienced transfers, and as you’d assume, Missouri did just that.
The Tigers landed talented Kansas State transfer DaJuan Gordon, as well as UMass transfer Ronnie DeGray to add what should be two impact pieces for head coach Cuonzo Martin this season. The Tigers are certainly better than they were a couple of weeks ago, but will certainly need some notable impacts from some of their younger players to be a sleeper team in the SEC this season.
9. Florida Gators
Previous Ranking: 8
When looking at which SEC teams remain mostly the same from a couple of weeks ago, the Gators obviously stick out the most. Star forward Colin Castleton leads a talented returning group, while talented newcomers including Penn State transfer Myreon Jones and four-star guard Kowacie Reeves will play pivotal roles.
Even despite dropping a spot from a month or two ago, the Gators still display one of the most complete and deepest teams in the SEC. When looking at preseason SEC teams that could make a run at the NCAA Tournament as well, it certainly feels like the list starts here with Florida at No. 9.
