Paul Scruggs – Xavier

Milestone: 1,500 points

The 2017 No.29 ranked recruit has spent 118 games with the Xavier Muskateers and the 2021-22 season will see him return. He returns having scored 1,246 points after having averaged fourteen points per game starting in the Muskateers backcourt, as well as being named to the All-Big East team.

Scruggs looks to have another impressive season similar to his sophomore year when he tallied up 429 points in 28 games. The Muskateers will also look to have success and improve upon their seventh-place conference finish last season. Scruggs will be joined in the starting line-up by last year’s starters Zach Freemantle, Nate Johnson, and Colby Jones, plus they will welcome the addition of Jack Nunge as he transfers from Iowa to fill in the power forward position in the starting line-up.

A career 46 percent shooter Scruggs had a 23 Usage Percentage last season as he was the second-leading scorer at 14 points per game, behind only Zach Freemantle and his 16 points. Scruggs will surpass the 1,500 point mark as long as he stays healthy and if COVID does not cancel too many games.

A big-time player playing in the Big East chasing 1,500 points with a team that has enough returning talent to possibly make the tournament for the first time under Head Coach Travis Steele, is quality television.
