Tom Izzo is back on the recruiting trail

There’s a lot of frustration with head coach Tom Izzo and the coaching staff, due to them not landing a single transfer this offseason. But while they may not have been busy in that category of recruiting, the Spartans have been aggressive with the 2023 class.

They’ll be looking to build off the commitment of Jeremy Fears, a top-30 point guard prospect that has been highly impressive in the past few months and is due for an upgrade in the next set of rankings. The team has several more spots available and seems to have a few specific targets.

One of them is Xavier Booker, who I mentioned in the Duke section of looking for a big man. If it’s true that Estrella is their choice, Michigan State could become the favorite for Booker. He’s giving out a list of finalists on July 25th and expect the Spartans to be on it, along with the likes of Indiana and Illinois.

Other top-50 prospects to watch for is combo guard Braelon Green, top-40 power forward Milan Momcilovic, and top-25 wing JJ Taylor. If Michigan State can get Booker and at least one of these targets along with Fears, that trio will be a top-15 quality class for 2023. And with building blocks such as AJ Hoggard, Jaxon Kolher, and Tre Holloman on board as well, this program can get back to the top tier of NCAA Basketball.
